I am delighted to bring you a brand new children’s book today, and one that I think parents and carers will enjoy too! Presenting: Animalympics.

About the book

Woodpecker Will presents the Animalympics! Whilst the humans stay indoors, the animal kingdom takes over to hold the sporting event of the century! Join the golfing ostriches, trampolining moles and weight-lifting gorillas (plus many more) in a fun rhyming adventure for all ages.

What do I think?

Through Animalympics, children are introduced to a range of sporting events that they may have seen or expect to see during the Olympic Games. As the world is in the pandemic lockdown and the Olympics are postponed, numerous animals emerge to take part in the games instead which is brilliant fun. From sprinting and hurdles to fencing, football, canoeing and volleyball the variety of sports is plentiful. The many animals taking part are too. Included amongst others are walruses, zebras, mountain goats, foxes and dolphins.

The rhyme that continues throughout the book is engaging and makes for a memorable story. My boys really liked how it flowed. Fantastic and beautiful illustrations accompany the text and bring the animal games to life too.

As always with children’s books, mine is not the only or most important opinion! What did my boys think? They called it a “super” book, and one which they would like to read “many more times”. I wholeheartedly agree.
