Getting hygge with Hopping Hare Candles

Hygge • creating a feeling of well being

Hopping Hare relaxing candle

Roughly pronounced “hoo-ga” or “hue-guh”, hygge is an important part of Danish culture. Since it burst onto the lifestyle scene in the UK in 2016 (some 200 years after being first noted in Denmark) it’s almost becoming old news. That doesn’t mean that it is no longer relevant though, far from it. In our fast paced world it feels as though it should absolutely underpin the way we approach life, even if we are not very good at giving it space and weaving it through our schedule.

Hygge can’t be translated into one word in English but broadly encompasses everything that we might do when the pace of life slows down. Wrapped up in a blanket, delving into a good book; taking a load off listening to music with a warm cuppa in your hands. It’s all hygge.

I’ve written before about self-care and the need to slow down. If you follow me on social media you might have seen that I’ve not been very successful at either recently. So it was lovely to be gifted a Hopping Hare Relaxing Candle. With a beautiful lavender scent filling the air in my home before it is even lit, it is perfect for creating that calm, comfortable environment. The hygge factor.

According to sources, the Danes burn more candles than any other nation in the world. In his book The Little Book of Hygge Meik Wiking writes, “No recipe for hygge is complete without candles. When Danes are asked what they most associate with hygge, an overwhelming 85 per cent will mention candles.” Hardly surprising if creating a cosy atmosphere lies at the heart of all things hygge, and artificial lighting is unlikely to meet that need as well as candlelight does.

This gorgeous Hopping Hare’s candle is supplied in a black nickel refillable holder too. So when you’re done there’s no guilt over glass making its way to the recycling pile, instead your container can head back to the team for a second helping. With our stretched environment being very much in focus at the moment, this is a lovely way to add sparkle to a zero waste lifestyle, whilst giving a boost to a hygge inspired home.

Hopping Hare refillable candle

Don’t just take my word for it though! You could be in with a chance of winning one of these beauties in any scent you fancy, with a free refill as well! They would make a super present to yourself or for a loved one (after all, the C word is just around the corner now and with Winter Spice, Vintage Fizz and Spiced Amber as options they are sure to be a seasonal hit too). So what are you waiting for! All the details for entry are below – good luck! Question is… which scent would you go for? Let me know in the comments!

Candlelit is so beautiful in the evening to help you relax and unwind X #Blogstravaganza

I agree. It makes me feel so calm! X

What a lovely giveaway. I’d be after the winter spice version myself. Hygge and Lagom are very much my watchwords since becoming a Mum. The throwaway quick living society really is not good for us. Great post. #Blogstravaganza

I agree. As a Mum I think it’s good for our children to see that downtime is an essential part of life too.

I definitely need some Hygge in my life and surprisingly I also associate slow pace life with candles. Or is it not surprising #blogstravaganza

I don’t think it’s something you think about, until you stop to consider what relaxation time really looks or feels like. Candles do help to send calm vibes in our house though!

They are beautiful and I love that they are refillable, fabulous idea #blogstravaganza

It is, isn’t it! They don’t have to be refilled with the same scent either – bonus! 🙂

I do love candles, although with several lively cats around, we have to be careful about how we use them! The light from candles is so wonderfully relaxing. Great post and prize, thank you for the opportunity! #Blogstravaganza

Yes, my cat is not very candle aware! I have a few spots that he doesn’t tend to jump to though so I can keep them out of his way x

Love Candles and keep meaning to put an order in on here for some! Love the reusable container! #Blogstravaganza

It’s beautiful isn’t it? They’re so well made too, I wish I could share the scent via the Internet! X

I didn’t actually know how to pronounce hygge! Lol The candle sounds lovely, perfect for cosy winter nights #blogstravaganza

Winter spice sounds wonderful. I love candles, pyjamas, thick socks, low lighting and a hot drink. Bliss

Yes! Something so comforting about snuggling down 🙂
