2023 wish list - looking out over Kingfisher pools

It seems that 2023 is already well underway and with it, as is often the case, comes renewed hope for what the coming months might bring. We don’t really set resolutions in our house, we have a rolling intention of being the best versions of ourselves that we can be, without putting ourselves under huge amounts of pressure or stress. That said, we do take a fresh look at our to-do list come January, and plan out some of the things that we want to do. We do this as a family so as you will see, it is rather varied!

In 2023, this is what we hope to achieve:

Travel abroad.

The boys have never been abroad. The first overseas holiday that we booked was due to take place in April 2020. We were all so excited to be going away to a different country and had shiny new passports delivered just in time for the first national lockdown. We hope that we haven’t tempted fate by booking another Easter break this year!

Watch TV together.

For all the active lifestyle points you might expect to find on a new year wish list, one thing our boys want to do more of is to watch TV shows together as a family, which we rarely do. Our younger children (aged 10 and 8) and really enjoy Is It Cake? We also watch The Masked Singer together, but any other suggestions for Saturday evening viewing (streaming or live TV) would be most welcome! Please let me know in the comments section below.

Finish redecorating bedrooms.

You may recall that last year we went through some fairly extensive reorganisation and building work downstairs. This year is the time to focus on upstairs. One bedroom was done as a result of some damp issues uncovered last year, but the remaining bedrooms all require some focus to create spaces that suit their respective occupants. My youngest child wants a rainbow themed room – please wish me luck with that!

Plan our bathroom makeover.

Last year was the turn of our kitchen and living room, this year we need to turn our attention to the bathroom. It is pleasant enough in design, but falling apart at the edges. I am desperate to move our washing machine and tumble dryer upstairs too. I’m not sure if we’ll quite fit the work in this year, but we will definitely get quotes and sit down with a budget spreadsheet to see if we can. I would love to get to the end of the year with the house virtually finished but cost of living increases can’t be ignored so we might need to spread the work out a bit.

Keep calm and carry on.

By the end of 2022 we had a realistic schedule in place. Covering out of school activities (for all 3 boys), my work, Jacob’s work and allowing some down time too, I hope that this continues for 2023. Over the last few years we have felt as though we’ve had more than a few unexpected bumps to contend with, so for 2023 I am hoping for some stability.

On that note, I wish you all peace, health, happiness and calm tides for 2023 too.
