I love travelling. Journeying the UK and the world, learning more about my country of birth and the countries and cultures beyond. I am not a seasoned traveller by any stretch of the imagination, but before my children came along I was certainly a compulsive holidayer. I often think about holidays that we’ve had and holidays that we hope to have. With this in mind, I thought I would share some of my favourites so far with you.
It’s hard to choose my all time favourite holiday destinations but, if pressed, my top five (in no particular order) would be:
1. Zurich, Switzerland
We travelled to Zurich for a long weekend and I loved it. My first time in Switzerland, we soaked up the city atmosphere and ventured the short distance up Uetliberg to take in the views. It was utterly delightful. We also journeyed further out and into the picturesque mountains. A trip I certainly won’t forget!
2. New Zealand
We went to the South Island of New Zealand for our honeymoon and I totally fell in love with it. My husband has family over there which made it even more special, but the culture and picturesque scenery captured my attention. We are saving hard so that we can take our boys there one day.
3. Cobh, Ireland
My first trip to Ireland came in my twenties, and was to the wonderful Cobh. I’ll never forget Fota Island Wildlife Park, the Blarney Stone, or disappearing into the depths of a cave on my 25th birthday.
4. Newport, Pembrokeshire, Wales
The beaches, the lovely community. This holiday was where we made the decision to start trying for a family, and will be forever in my heart. We ventured to Whitesands Bay and St Davids during this holiday too, which are both well worth a visit.
5. Elounda, Crete
The history, the beaches, the Samaria gorge walk which claimed two toe nails. We spent two relaxed weeks here and were made to feel so welcome by the locals, who were very supportive of my desire to learn the Greek language!
Where’s your favourite place to visit? I’d love to hear from you!
